Inquiries in to impacts of the Port City now implemented!

An impact assesment on the aquatic ecological system and the fishing community from the construction of the Port City is now initiated by authorities.

the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) will assess the impact on the aquatic eco-system. The Port City Project has allocated Rs. 63 million for this assessment and the research will extend to a 20 kilometers sea stretch to the North and South on the either side of the Port city.
Government has appointed a Steering Committee to assess the impact of the Port City on the fishing community. A discussion was recently held at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Development. The Port City Project has allocated Rs. 500 Million for the livelihood development of the fishing community in the Western Province. Funds will be utilized through the Ministry of Fisheries. Rs. 150 million of this fund will be distributed among 54 fishermen societies and the balance is for infrastructure development of the Western province fisheries sector.
