Protestors in Jaffna call for release of Tamil political prisoners
A
protest was held in Jaffna today calling for the release of Tamil
political prisoners who are being held in Sri Lankan prisons.

Heavily
armed troops from Sri Lanka’s Special Task Force and plainclothes CID
officers watched over the protest, photographing demonstrators as they
marched through the town centre, chanting slogans and holding placards.
Amongst
those present were the General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union,
disappearances activist Jeyakumari Balendran and the father of
Nimalaruban Ganeshan, a 28-year-old Tamil political prisoner who was
beaten to death in his Vavuniya prison cell.
