Documents on frauds & corruption disappear at Bribery Commission

A situation has arisen where the vital documents relevant to frauds and corruption that are in the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption are carried away by thieves says the convener of Voice against Corruption (VAC) Wasantha Samarasinghe.

He said documents and copies of a complaint he made to the Commission in 2017 in connection with a racket carried out to smuggle in motor spare parts and assemble them here have disappeared from the Commission.

Mr. Samarasinghe said he came to know about the disappearance of the documents and copies when he went to the Commission to find out the progress of the investigations regarding his complaint.

He said the initial document of his complaint was at the Commission but the documents and copies produced to prove the racket have disappeared and added that a process has surfaced to steal things that are in places set up to catch thieves.

He said despite informing the official of the Commission to find the documents and copies relevant to his complaint and inform him, he has not received an answer from the Commission yet.
