More talks on the final report of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) began last week just after

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, returned from attending the Asia Pacific Democracy Forum in Bali, Indonesia

There was a change of mind over President Rajapaksa tabling the report in Parliament and making a statement as revealed exclusively in the Sunday Times of December 4. In fact the outlines of such a speech, government sources said, were being put together by External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris. It was decided that instead, House Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva make a statement and table the report. Thus, it was agreed it should take place not on December 21, the last day of the on-going budget sessions of Parliament but last Friday. Yet, President Rajapaksa is expected to be present in the House on Wednesday in his capacity as Minister of Finance.

LLRC head’s wife to be appointed as Justice Ministry Secretary

The President has decided to appoint Chairman of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), C.R. de Silva’s (Bulla) wife, Kamalini de Alwis as the Justice Ministry Secretary, Ministry sources said.

She is currently an additional secretary to the Ministry.
The President is to appoint current Justice Ministry Secretary Suhada Gamlath as an Additional Solicitor General to the Attorney General’s Department in order to appoint Mrs. De Silva as the new Justice Ministry Secretary.

High Court Judge Warawewa had typed the verdict of the controversial White Flag case against former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka on the 17th evening and had shut down the computer before locking his office room and leaving.

However, some person had secretly entered the office room and had deleted all the data in the judge’s computer.

Lanka News Web has learnt of the valuable wedding gifts given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the daughter of High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundera, who sentenced former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka to three years in prison in the White Flag case. President Rajapaksa signed as the witness from the bride’s side for the wedding.

After signing as the witness for the wedding, the President has handed an envelop to the bride with a cheque signed for Rs. 1 million to Deepali Wijesundera’s daughter. The President had also sent a brand new unregistered vehicle to her house few days after the wedding.
