Freedom Day, which falls tomorrow (3). Sri Lanka's abysmal rankings in
media freedom have been documented in a number of international press
freedom indices. Sri Lanka ranks 162nd in the Reporters Without Borders'
Press Freedom Index, one slot ahead of Saudi Arabia and one behind
Rwanda . The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in its Impunity
Index ranks Sri Lanka as the fourth worst place for journalists.
