srilankan

Sunday, 10 May 2015
Namal Rajapaksa, Nishantha Wickramasinghe et al are planning to use the media, trade unions and the judiciary to attack senior lawyer J.C. Weliamuna, who has chaired the commission that inquired into irregularities in SriLankan Airlines, say
reliable sources.
Severely inconvenienced by the exposures contained in the commission report against them, the culprits are going to file action in the superior court in an attempt to get the recommendations of the Weliamuna commission declared null and void. For that, they are gathering up lawyers loyal to the Rajapaksas. As a result, Rajapaksa loyalists among lawyers are thriving although the Rajapaksas do not hold power of the state now, and are getting any sum they demand for their services. Advocate Nigel Bartholomeusz of the court of appeal has accepted the task and he has demanded an advance of Rs. 10 million, which the Rajapaksas have paid without a grumble.
In addition, the Rajapaksas have been able to bait several TUs in the Aviation Authority into attacking the Weliamuna commission, and handed over an advance payment of Rs. 02 m to the TU office bearers.
Also, they have given Rs. 01 m each to several journalists loyal to the Rajapaksas to continually attack Weliamuna, say the sources.
The person who has borne most of the expenses in this task is Dilshan Wickramasinghe, the son of former SriLankan chairman Nishantha Wickramasinghe, who is the brother of former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. Dilshan is the local agent for major Chinese projects in Sri Lanka. Living in Singapore, he and his business partner Prabhath Nanayakkara are funding the project to create yet another Rajapaksa era in Sri Lanka. Presently, the financial crime investigation division is investigating their business transactions.
