U.S.
Secretary of State John Kerry, center left, poses with Sri Lankan
President Maithripala Sirisena before a meeting in the presidential
meeting room at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, Sri Lanka, May
2, 2015.

A
noticeable weakness of the current Maithripala Sirisena administration
in Sri Lanka is its lack of forthrightness in claiming victories scored
by it in the foreign policy sphere. Clearly, the Maithri government has
clinched some very significant such triumphs since assuming office but
it seems to be taking modesty to the extremes by not sufficiently
voicing these achievements. It is giving the impression of soft-paddling
its pluses in foreign policy thinking and implementation, which is
quite unfortunate.
