Visiting US Secretary of State - John Kerry has stated that the US would provide technical assistance needed for anti-corruption measures in Sri Lanka.
Kerry has stated thus while meeting Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
During the meeting, the President has requested a special training for officers in the Bribery commission, police and CID in order to further strengthen anti-corruption measures. In response, the US Secretary of State has pledged complete support.
Meanwhile, Kerry also said that US would pledge assistance to probe into monies hidden in foreign banks by certain Sri Lankans.
Kerry had also said States appreciates the steps taken by President Maithripala Sirisena to strengthen democracy and ensure transparency and accountability.
Kerry said he decided to visit Sri Lanka as a mark of endorsement of the policies undertaken by the new government and he would use the same reasons to try to convince President Obama to visit Sri Lanka, if possible next year before he completes his term.
