Derana TV suspends presenter (video)

The incident is related to what he has said at ‘Derana Aruna’ programme
with regard to a female singer who sang ‘Danno Budunge’ at the
Independence Day musical show.
Sankha has said that she-cats in the heat should be driven away by throwing bricks at them.
At a statement to the media in Badulla yesterday (13), prime minister
Ranil Wickremesinghe referred to the utterance and condemned it, saying
stern measures would be taken against electronic media stations that
insulted women.
Noting that TV frequencies belong to the public, the PM slammed the
utterance, saying such things would not be tolerated and granting
permits to channels would be more closely monitored.
Later, the PM summoned the Derana TV correspondent and asked him about the measures taken with regard to the matter.
The correspondent said the channel expressed regret, after which the PM
noted Derana TV should take measures to safeguard its license.
