My video was sold to foreign medias – Rahul Samantha Hettiarachchi

Recently a video footage of a calf elephant rescued following the fall into a pit was widely publicized in the media. It became mainstream news not only for the local media but also for few international media’s.

It was the same video broadcast in all Medias and the media became so unkind to note who the owner of the video was. The video was recorded by Rahul Samantha Hettiarachchi, a regional reporter from the southern province. He has shared the video with few media organizations and in return the regional reporter has been paid a nominal amount for his video.

Rahul Samantha alleges that his video has been sold to the foreign media and taken money. He also alleges many media organizations has not indicated who the owner of the video.

The journalist said the owners of many media organizations show a false face to outside and make millions of money and journalists working for him only get the crumbs. He urged justice for his video.

Sometimes before a similar injustice happen to this journalist. A famous television channel broadcasted his videos and Rahul Samantha filed a case against him.

Rahul Samantha pointed out this is a great injustice committed for regional journalists. He said the news they search and give with greatest difficulty is poorly paid and the media organizations earn a large money by broadcasting the news.
