Upali was betrayed by brother Jayantha!

Upali was betrayed by brother Jayantha!

Former Sri Lanka Cricket president, wealthy businessman Upali Dharmadasa was arrested at Dubai Airport last Saturday (22) by immigration officials on a tip-off given by his brother, Jayantha, who too, is a former SLC chief, reports say. Upali was taken while on his way from Frankfurt, Germany to Colombo.

Jayantha had betrayed Upali, informing Dubai immigration authorities that he had submitted fake documents to claim he was the owner of a garment factory in that country, to obtain visa. The two are presently involved in a major legal battle to claim inheritance from their father, the late H.K. Dharmadasa. Upali has filed around five cases in courts against his brother Jayantha.
Jayantha has sent a message through a messenger to Upali that if he was to withdraw his complaint to the Dubai immigration authorities, Upali should withdraw all these court cases against him (Jayantha believes Dubai is just like Sri Lanka).
A family friend told us, “Jayantha had shown gratitude to Upali, who had informed the sports ministry and the courts following a lengthy study that Thilanga Sumathipala, his wife and Jagath Sumathipala were involved in betting and gaming, which made Thilanga unqualified to hold any position in cricket administration as per sub-clause one of clause seven of the ICC code of ethics, which paved the way for Jayantha to become the SLC president, by getting him to be imprisoned in an alien country without any laws.”
Upali’s legal adviser, president’s counsel Harsha Amarasekara, is now in Dubai to legally represent his client, the same source said further.
