Introduction
At
the invitation of the Government, the United Nations Working Group on
Arbitrary Detention conducted its official country visit to Sri Lanka
from 4 to 15 December 2017. The Working Group was represented by Mr.
José Guevara Bermúdez (Mexico, Chair-Rapporteur), Ms. Leigh Toomey
(Australia, Vice-Chair) and Ms. Elina Steinerte (Latvia, Vice-Chair),
and accompanied by staff from the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Human Rights. The Working Group thanks the UN Country
Team, its Resident Coordinator and the Human Rights team for supporting
the visit.
