Thonda teaches ‘Sinhala theory’ to

Radhakrishnan!

thondaman kirshnanLivestock Development Minister Arumugam Thondaman, whose Ceylon Workers’ Congress is contesting for the Western Provincial Council at the upcoming polls on its own, gave an interesting piece of advice to his deputy chairman P. Radhakrishnan a few days ago, say ministry sources.
According to the sources, Radhakrishnan had met Thondaman and showed him a letter from the Urban Development Authority and requested him to speak to UDA’s competent authority, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, in order for him to obtain a 2.5 acre plot of land from Wattala to set up a Tamil language school. Thondaman too, could not understand the UDA letter, which was in the Sinhala language and summoned a Sinhalese secretary of his and told her to prepare a response to that letter.

A little while later, the secretary had come back to the minister and said the letter mentioned that approval has been given for the plot of land from Wattala for Radhakrishnan and that he should pay Rs. 1.8 million for that. Since, a school is to be built on this land, the UDA has requested him to send an appeal, to exempt him from that payment.

Understanding his deputy chairman’s difficulty in understanding the Sinhala language, minister Thondaman has said in front of all that he should marry a Sinhala woman immediately. Then, Radhakrishnan has asked as to what he should do with the wife he has already married. The minister has replied, “Then, try to keep a paramour at least. Especially, if you want to contest from Colombo, you will have to do that definitely. Or else, you will have to bring to me all the Sinhala letters you receive every day.”

A laughing Radhakrishnan has come out of the minister’s room, saying “Donkey (Thondaman’s pet name) is giving funny advice for me. I am over 60 years of age now. Not a Sinhalese, I would consider if someone can be hitched for me from Hyderabad,” and left the ministry.
