President Maithri assassination bid : Pro Rajapakse Presidential security force dismantled

(Lanka-e-News- 08.May.2015, 2.15PM) The presidential security force  which comprised  the army that  was created for the security of the Rajapakse family  and which was extremely partial towards the Rajapakses was  dismantled with effect from 30 th of May.

The presidential  security force until the end of the  term  of office of Chandrika Kumaratunge  a former president of the country( the PSD -presidential security division ) was comprised of police personnel attached to the PSD. However after the advent of president Mahinda Rajapakse noted for his paranoid mental condition and maniacal disposition formed a security contingent under the name of  presidential security force  comprising the army and members of  other forces who were his stooges and lickspittles.

This security force which started with 400 members snowballed to 1200 by the time it was dismantled on  30th last month. Among those who were enrolled to this force subsequently were ‘ chandiyas’ (thugs) of the area who secured ‘major ‘ titles in the army under Rajapakse patronage. One of them was Major general Vagi Gallage the commanding officer , a notorious Rajapakse lackey and henchman who engaged in active politics while wearing the uniform brazenly .The deputy commanding officer was Brigadier Ravipriya.

An army directive  (shown herein)issued under the signature of Ravipriya mentions that except the soldiers of the navy and air force , all other soldiers of the army attached to the presidential security corps are released from their main regiments and units .Additionally it states in the future no file or accounts of theirs in the name of presidential security force  shall be maintained .

These instructions are a sequel to the recent arrest of a Commando corporal Senaka Kumara with a loaded  9 m.m.  automatic pistol who is still providing security to  Mahinda Rajapakse , when Senaka was moving  suspiciously into close quarters within shooting range of the incumbent president Maithripala when he attended a rally at Angunangkola pelessa at Hambantota . Senaka while  hiding the firearm had  falsely claimed it was a water bottle . It is noteworthy Senaka Kumara had most mysteriously jostled his way extremely  close to the president despite the thick security ‘blanket’ around the latter.

The suspect Senaka Kumara is now in remand custody , and interestingly the deposed president Mahinda Rajapakse has issued an official  statement on behalf of him .When  a soldier of  Mahinda’s security detail had transgressed the security rules and regulations deliberately , and if Mahinda who is still under the protection of the main security forces  criticizes the officers who are enforcing the laws as well as the courts , obviously Mahinda has  expressly and impliedly confirmed that it is he  who sent that soldier (suspect) involved in the assassination bid of president Maithripala .

May we recall that we (LeN) published a report regarding the statement made by  Mahinda Rajapakse to a  AFP French news service a few days prior to this incident  , and the suspicions that were aroused based on it against Mahinda  in connection with the assassination bid . No matter what , a soldier (suspect) of Mahinda’s security detail arriving for the rally on the day of the  Angunankola  incident  as a security personnel of Namal Rajapakse is  a matter that merits a serious probe , because at present Namal is an ordinary M.P. , and while being so enlisting the security protection of the PSD is a gross violation of the laws.

Irrespective of the plans and plots of whoever involved in this assassination bid , this incident is an eye opener to all specially those who are responsible for the provision of security to the incumbent president . Yesterday(07), Mahendra Fernando , the chief of the commando security unit of Mahinda Rajapakse to which unit the suspect commando corporal is attached was questioned by the CID for 5 hour which is suggestive how grave the incident was.

Meanwhile the CID has furnished a detailed report to IGP  on S.M. Wickremesinghe SDIG, the chief in charge of the security contingent of the VIP - president Maithripala and his neglect of duties leading to the security lapse that posed grave danger to the president’s life. A majority are of the view when there is such a serious dereliction of duty on the part of the SDIG Wickremesinnghe  , what should have been done is , before initiating investigations Wickremesinghe should have been interdicted.

It is worthy of note that  Wickremesinghe was the chief in charge of the security detail of Mahinda Rajapakse for 18 years, and during that period this SDIG was entrusted with the contract  of erecting iron poles, building stages  ,huts etc. for the rallies of Mahinda.  In this connection SDIG Wickremesinghe commenced a private Co. along with two other police officers , namely DIG  Kuduwewatte and ASP Kularatne which undertook these contracts . In addition ,sub contracts were given to another Co.

Might we make special  mention that government officers engaging in such contracts is absolutely prohibited in law. In any case Wickremesinghe made a net profit of about Rs. One million from each such contract  .Mahinda Rajapakse who is a  megalomaniac of the morbid  order wished his platforms, stages and decorations are most grand no matter the cost . This helped Wickremesinghe to line his pockets well and thoroughly , and also make huge profits . But  now , since  president Maithripala  is prone to austerity , and not profligacy , it can be gauged which side DIG Wickremesinghe will  favor who is now unable to make a fast buck at public expense unlike in the era of Rajapakse  when all the thieves of Alibaba , the chieftain were allowed to rob the country freely and fearlessly.

At all events ,sadly  the investigations into the serious presidential security lapse is being conducted most slyly  and haphazardly
