Maj. Gen. Keppetiwalana in trouble!

There is an attempt to cover up an assault on the defence attache at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Pakistan by Maj. Gen. Keppetiwalana, who is in the country to undergo a course at the Pakistan National Defence Academy, reports say.

Keppetiwalana obtained pictures etc., through the defence attache Brig. Senarath Bandara, required for a Sri Lanka stall at an international defence exhibition in Islamabad on December 05.

But, Keppetiwalana had not returned the pictures, and Bandara had reminded him about them several times.

Angered by that, a drunk Keppetiwalana a few nights ago had stormed Bandara’s home, broke doors, several furniture and threatened him with death.

The house is located in a zone exclusively for foreign diplomatic officials, and diplomats of several countries had intervened in the incident.

Although an investigation should take place, the defence and foreign affairs ministries are attempting to cover up the incident.

The reason is that Keppetiwalana is a very close associate of Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka. During the Rajapaksa regime, Keppetiwalana was suspended over his connections with Fonseka, and was reinstated by the present government.
