Military personals threatened 5 journalists in Waligamam North |

Area
residents have informed Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians on
this issue. TNA parliamentarian Saravanabawan, TNA Northern Provincial
Council members M.K.Sivajilingam,Sidhartha and Gajadeepan directly
visited Kattuwan area this morning. Military personals have threatened Jaffna Valampuri journalist S.Rajasekaran, Thinakuran newspaper journalist S.Nidharshan, Shakthi TV provincial council correspondent V.Gajeeban , Tamilmirror provincial correspondent S.Kajendraprada and the Udayan photo journalist S.Tharshanth. Military personals have ordered to erase video footages recorded by these journalists and also warned not to release them in the media. |
Army continuing to take civilian lands says TNA

TNA Northern Provincial Council member M.K. Sivajilingham has charged
that the army had destroyed some homes in the area to prepare the land
for military camps.
“Over the past few days the army has been using bulldozers to destroy
the buildings in the area including civilian houses,” he has been quoted
in the media as saying.
Sivajilingam has said that he had visited the area with TNA MP E.
Sarawanabavan and a few other Northern Provincial Council members.
A few Tamil journalists from Jaffna including those representing
Thinakural and Tamil Mirror had also accompanied the delegation to visit
the site.
Sivajilingam has also said that the army had threatened the journalists
when they had attempted to take photographs of the High Security Zone in
the area where the civilian houses were located.
“We were told permanent camps are going to be built for the army there,” he has said.
