POLICE SARGENT ARRESTED FOR MAKING THREAT WITH A GUN

A Police Sargent has been arrested after he allegedly left his duty area and threatened a person while firing shots into the air. The officer in question is reportedly attached to the traffic unit of the Marawila Police.  

The Police Sargent, who had been assigned to duty in the Mahawewa area with another officer, had last night traveled alone in a police motorcycle to a residence in Irabadagama within the Pannala Police Division.

He had proceeded to threaten the occupant of the house and fired several shots into the air.

The house owner had later lodged a complaint with Pannala Police and informed the police emergency hotline.   

Pannala Police discovered two empty 9.9mm ammunition shells at the scene of the incident and notified Marawila Police regarding the officer.

Accordingly the Police Sargent and the service weapon issued to him have been taken into custody by Marawila Police.
