Hiru bribed its way into 1st place – Rupavahini DG

hiru tvHiru TV has gained first place according to LMRB rankings for Sri Lanka’s electronic media even before it marks its first anniversary by giving money and women as bribes, director general of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Chandrapala Liyanage is saying publicly.
The LMRB ranks SLRC, a 32-year-old institution, in the 7th place.
This ranking has put the government into severe inconvenience. It has become clearly evident after information and media ministry secretary Dr. Charitha Herath’s call in a special press release a few days ago for the state’s regulation of various rankings.
SLRC’s setback is due unavoidably to the inabilities of its DG and the political tug-of-war in its administration, but instead of admitting it, the DG is making himself a joker by slinging mud at other channels, according to media experts.
Although there is no acceptable evidence to prove that Hiru TV has given bribes, it is no secret that the channel has achieved first place due to its commitment and its novel programmes.
