Batticaloa Tamil fishermen protest for rights

Tamil fishermen in Batticaloa protested on Tuesday demanding their
rights and livelihood be protected from tourism and encroachment from
non-native fishermen.
The protestors in Mukathuvaram said fishing communities in the area are
struggling to make a livelihood, particularly with the granting of so
much coastal land for military and corporate tourist resorts.
Groups from outside of Batticaloa are also engaged in illegal fishing in the district, the protestors said.
