Military cannot be involved in civil duties - Ajith Perera
The Military cannot be involved in the civil duties of the Police under
the Police Ordinance and the Military Ordinance, United National Front
(UNF) Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera claimed.
He stated this during a media briefing at the Opposition Leader's office, yesterday (25).
Perera said that if the Government wishes to involve the Military in civil duties of the Police, the a Parliamentary Act must be submitted for approval.
He stated that it is not right for the Military to get involved in Police duties because the Military has received a different training than the Police, and if the Government is willing to allow the Military to arrest civilians, then it is possible that if they come into power after the upcoming election, they will even provide a Seat in Parliament for the Military.
Furthermore, Perera alleged that the Government has reopened certain sections of the Central Expressway without fully completing the highway exits and entrances.
