The threat of nuclear war rang out from Moscow in Russia today,
as Vladimir Putin ordered all his forces to “high combat alert”, following the invasion of Ukraine.

Not for the first time his most senior ministers looked visibly uncomfortable with the orders he was giving them on Russian television.

But amid street-to-street fighting in Ukraine it appears that both sides have agreed to meet for talks on the Belarus border tomorrow morning local time even in the face of Putin’s nuclear threat.
