Cost of living: Johnson says government ‘has to fix’ child poverty crisis

Boris Johnson has admitted the number of children living in poverty is a problem that his government “has to fix”.

He made the comments against the backdrop of increasing pressure on the poorest households because of soaring food and energy bills.

Harrogate in North Yorkshire rightly has a reputation as a fashionable Victorian spa town – but beyond the many leafy streets there is real deprivation where families are struggling to put food on the table.
