‘Hidden’ spiked barricades and new gas masks for Sri Lankan police as protests continue

The Sri Lankan police have placed spiked barricades that are ‘hidden’ with tarpaulin across parts of Colombo over the last 24 hours and reportedly equipped themselves with newly issued gas masks, as anti-government protests continue across the South.

Across some areas in Fort, photographs have emerged on social media showing barricades with spikes that have been erected by the Sri Lankan police.

Meanwhile Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka tweeted photographs of brand new gas masks being distributed amongst Sri Lankan police officers who were manning the barricades on roads leading to the protest site on Galle Face Green.

Protests at Galle Face Green have now been continuing for 16 days, as Sri Lanka’s economic crisis worsens.
